about

Father’s Pocket Watch was born from a weekly music club started back in 2009. Brian had grown weary of writing confessional songs to play for 3 people in tiny bars. He decided it was time to focus on the fun part of making music. Each Thursday some friends would come over to drink some beers, pick a song to work up then record it. The revolving cast of musicians eventually coalesced to a consistent few and, soon enough, Tyson settled on the washtub bass and homemade junk drums (jums) while Brian fell in with the old-time clawhammer banjo style. Ryan was asked to join the band in a room full of inflatable castles about a year later.

They recorded most of Lily Wild Days over two days last October in a big open studio room at Type Foundry Studios. Most of the basic tracks were captured live in two or three takes. After a few months of stewing they brought some friends over to the FPWHQ who added their beautiful voices to the album.

These songs are new folklore; stories told around a campfire. They evoke images of bearded men, willful women, wood grain, chipped stone, carnival barkers, hometown picnic day parades, wind chimes and initials in oak trees, treasure maps in lemon ink and the breath held before a trapeze catch.
